What is Otolaryngology (ENT)?

Otolaryngology often has many names because of how the doctors are trained and what they treat. These physicians diagnose and treat diseases of the ear, nose, and throat. They are also trained in medicine and surgery of these areas, therefore, the field is often referred to as otolaryngology-head and neck surgery or ENT.  They treat patients of all ages. After medical school, these doctors go through at least five years of specialty training, an examination, and if you want to specialize further, a one or two year fellowship. These physicians see cases such as, congenital disorders of the ear, smell disorders, cancers of those regions, or even swallowing disorders.
